How to use it
Choose a rotation preset such as 4 on 4 off, 2-2-3 or DuPont, or pick Custom and build your own blocks.
Set your start date, then tap the day of the cycle that date falls on.
Adjust the shift times and colours, and check the month or year view and your yearly totals.
Print the year or save it as a PDF, or download the .ics file and import it into your calendar.
Examples
A nurse on 4 on 4 off
Four 12-hour days, then four days off. Set the start date to your first shift and tap cycle day 1. The year view shows when your long breaks fall.
A firefighter-style custom rotation
Choose Custom and add blocks such as 1 day shift, 1 night shift, then 4 days off. Add up to 56 days in total and the whole year follows.
A factory worker on Panama
Pick 2-2-3 (Panama) and tap the day your crew is on today. The calendar shows every second weekend off and how many hours you work over the year.
The DuPont schedule is a 28-day cycle used with four crews: four nights, three off, three days, one off, three nights, three off, four days, then seven off. Each crew works the same pattern, offset in time, so the site is covered around the clock.
Over 28 days you work 14 twelve-hour shifts, seven nights and seven days, which averages 42 hours a week. The seven days off at the end of the cycle is the long break people value.
The drawbacks are the frequent switch between nights and days and the single day off between a day block and the next night block. Plan sleep around the change.
Versions of the pattern differ between sites, so check the order against your own roster. If it differs, build it as a custom rotation.
Frequently asked questions
What is a 2-2-3 schedule?
It is a 14-day cycle: two days on, two off, three on, two off, two on, three off. Most people work 12-hour shifts, so you average 42 hours a week, never work more than three days in a row and get every second weekend off.
What is the DuPont schedule?
DuPont is a 28-day rotation used with four crews: four nights, three off, three days, one off, three nights, three off, four days, then seven off. Each crew follows the same pattern, offset in time, so the site is covered around the clock.
How do I pick my start position in the cycle?
Set the start date to any day you know your pattern for, for example your first shift or today. Then tap the chip that matches that day of the cycle. If today is your second day off in a row, tap the second off chip after your last shift.
How are overnight shifts and daylight saving time handled?
A shift that ends after midnight counts to the day it starts, and its hours are the time from start to end. The hour gained or lost on the night the clocks change is ignored, so a 12-hour night always counts as 12 hours.
How do I import the .ics file into Google, Apple or Outlook?
In Google Calendar on a computer, open Settings, then Import and export, and choose the file. In Apple Calendar, choose File, then Import. In Outlook, choose Add calendar, then Upload from file. Times are saved without a time zone, so a 07:00 shift stays at 07:00 wherever you open it.
Does the calendar line up for dates before my start date?
Yes. The rotation is extended backwards and forwards from the start date, so any year you view stays in step, including years before the start.
Is this free, and is anything I enter stored or uploaded?
It is free, with no sign-up. The calendar is computed in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to a server.
Which crew am I on?
Pick the day of the cycle your crew is on today, and the calendar lines up from there.
How many hours do you work on the DuPont schedule?
With 12-hour shifts, 168 hours every 28 days, which averages 42 hours a week.
How many days off do you get on DuPont?
Fourteen in every 28 days, including one block of seven days off in a row.
Can I change the shift times?
Yes. Edit the start and end time of the day and night shifts under Shift times and colours, and the hours total updates.
